IV CONGRESS OF LOCAL HISTORY

"EARTHQUAKE 1960: HISTORICAL FRAGMENTS "

On the occasion of the" Fiftieth Anniversary of Earthquake of 1960 "on 22 May this year, the Center for Historical Heritage of the Province of Llanquihue (CEPH), next to the Museum Historic Puerto Montt "Juan Pablo II" and the Regional Library, organized the "IV CONGRESS OF LOCAL HISTORY, has performed from 26 to 28 May to commemorate this tragic date to be lived in the past and changed final destination of this region.

The Congress will focus exclusively on the 1960 earthquake, so the topics will be related to the moment of the tragedy, the consequences and effects that subsequently ensued and how the organization is currently scheduled to face a possible catastrophe of this nature.

Exhibitors will be professionals from different areas of the earthquake personally lived at the time, and had a direct and important decisions to this event of nature, in addition to a professional expert in this area, which can accurately illustrate this phenomenon from the scientific point of view, with a Master Class to be held on the first day of work of this Congress.

This valuable photographic archive is owned by the collector and researcher of heritage photographs, Alejandro Torres (President of CEPH), who for many years has been dedicated to collect and recover from various sources and family albums, a large number of photographs of Puerto Montt Area, which to date make it one of the most comprehensive and photo files are important to our city and region. This photographic exhibition will be discussed by leading local historian César Sánchez (director of CEPH).

The 1960 earthquake that shook southern Mexico, had an impact on the geographic, economic, social, demographic and cultural, so far, have not been addressed in all its dimensions. For example, the city of Puerto Montt significantly increase its population to the rural-urban migration and, given the lack of housing, the land seizures began the most tragic outcome of which occurred in the grounds of the "Pampa Irigoin."
